Today was the start of my first weekend here. I got to sleep in a bit before I walked to the store with my brother Ruda to get some bread ("Osm rohlíky a půlka chleb"). When we came back we ate a small breakfast that consisted of a soft boiled egg and one of the "rohlíky". I decided to take a little bit of down time while my host mom did laundry, so I listened to some new Czech music my host dad gave me yesterday. When she finished with some of the laundry, we walked down the street to watch my host dad and some of the guys from the club play soccer tennis. They showed me the local pub before my host mom and I headed back home to make lunch. Zora taught me how to make sweet dumplings. Its basically a plum (from our orchard) wrapped in a potato based dough. To eat them, you cut them up and put poppy seeds with powdered sugar, butter, and sweetened milk on top. She made a quick family favorite soup while I made the dumplings.
I am continuing to learn more Czech, thanks to my host parents' constant quizzing. Today, with some slow repetition from Zora, I was able to unload the dishwasher one item at a time, in Czech. :)
Oh man...this looks delicious! 😋
the dumplings sound great, pass on the recipe? love all the things you are doing!
