I woke up at my usual time for school, but instead of getting ready for school I finished packing my things for my trip to Trutnov for the weekend. My mom drove me to the train station so that I could make it to my train on time. I happened to run into one of Gigi’s classmates, Sharron, who is an exchange student from Italy with AFS. She and I talked for awhile until her train came. Trutnov really isn’t too far, but it took almost 5 hours by train because I had to take 3 different trains.
Once I finally arrived in Trutnov around 1 in the afternoon Maggie picked me up and took me to a cafe. We hung out there for awhile and we FaceTimed her US mom for a few minutes. Then her class had told her that they needed her to come to their class dance practice. Since Maggie is in the last year of high school here, they all do a special choreographed dance at their class prom. We went to the school and I watched Maggie practice the dance with them for awhile. Then they had to take some pictures before we left.
When they were done, Maggie and I went to the store to buy some food to make our dinner later that night. After shopping we went to eat a little snack and sit in the main square where we thought her classmates had told us to meet them. Then we realized that it was a different square in the city, so we got our things and moved. As we were walking we ran into one of her classmates luckily who told us that the place had been changed. They were all in a club where they were going to film their class video that would also be shown at the prom. We all sat around the club and pretended to drink and party while they filmed us. They let me be in the video even though I don’t even live in Trutnov. After they finished filming the video Maggie finally took me to her house. She lives up a hill so we slowly walked home.
When we got home we mostly just hung out in her room for a few hours talking about all sorts of random things. We ended up FaceTiming my friend Tatu from Finland for almost an hour before we went downstairs for dinner. Her mom had made food for us so we put our groceries in the fridge and planned to make our dinner the next day.
After dinner we talked to her host mom about our plans for the evening before going to her room to get ready. Maggie knows a disco place in the city center where they play all sorts of music that we know and there’s a big dance floor. So later in the evening we went to the disco. We danced all night long and met all sorts of new people. I didn’t used to like to dance, but I had a really good time dancing for around 6 hours. We got home pretty late because we got super caught up dancing and talking to people.
Saturday morning we slept in quite of bit of course after a long night. Once we had finally gotten up we just hung out in Maggie’s room. We eventually got dressed and went out for a walk to the store to get a few more things to make our dinner that evening. When we got home we set to work cooking, knowing that it would take longer than it should.
For dinner we made a sort of cheesy pasta bake with bacon and garlic. It didn’t look super great when we put it in the oven, but we were hungry and hoping for the best. To be honest I have no idea what went wrong, but it looked worse coming out of the oven than it did going in. We decided that maybe it would taste better than it looked, but we were wrong about that too. We ate some of it before giving up and cleaning up.
After dinner we went to Maggie’s room again to hang out for an hour or so before we went out again. First we went to the store to get a little snack since we hadn’t eaten much dinner. Then we went back to the disco for a few hours of dancing before going home again. As soon as we got to her house we went to bed.
Sunday we slept in a bit again until around 11. Once I had packed up my things and gotten dressed for the journey home, we went downstairs. Her mom had made some lunch for us, so we ate and I thanked her for everything. Then we waited until her host dad got home from a trip so that I could meet him before I left. Once I had finished saying goodbye and thanking them for hosting me, we left and went to the store. I needed to buy a couple of snacks for the almost five hour train ride home.
We ended up almost missing my train after misjudging how far away the station was from the store, but I made it. We hugged goodbye and then I went to get on the train. For the first two shorter trains I mostly played on my phone or wrote for my blog on my phone. By the time I got on the last train I was completely exhausted, so I fell asleep immediately. I was so sound asleep I almost missed my stop on the way home.
When I finally got back to Brno I looked at the trains going back to the village and I had just missed one, so I would have to wait two hours. I went and hung out in the McDonald’s near the train station and charged my phone. When I arrived home I remembered that my host grandma had come for a visit. So I talked with her a bit over dinner before I went and took a shower. I was still tired from the whole weekend, so I ended up going to bed at 9:30.
