Monday morning I woke up around 11 after almost 13 hours of sleep. My parents and I agreed the night before that I would miss school the next day because I was getting sick and I was beyond exhausted. So when I woke up I walked to the kitchen to put my lunch in the oven to heat it up for awhile.
While I waited for the lunch to warm I worked on the computer a little bit. Once it was ready I turned on some music, served myself, and ate in the nice and quiet house. I had leftover rabbit and potatoes that the family had had for lunch over the weekend while I was away.
When I was done with lunch I watched a movie before getting hit with another wave of exhaustion. I remember thinking about getting up to turn off the light but I never made it. I fell asleep at 5 in the evening and woke up at 8:30 after my parents had arrived home.
I came out of my room to say hello and my dad told me I must have been tired. I had been tired but I was confused by what he meant. He told me that when he got home he came to my room to say hi, but I was passed out with the light still on.
Since I had just woken up I wasn’t super hungry so I grabbed an orange before saying goodnight and heading back to my room. I went to bed at 10 that night hoping to get a bit more sleep before going back to school the next day.
Tuesday morning I woke up not feeling great again, but I didn’t want to be that exchange student who was always sick at home. So I said yes I would go to school and I would just come home after school and rest. School ended up getting out early so I went to get a snack with some friends before meeting up with Gigi to walk to my school for our Czech lesson.
Everyone was at the class except Shri who was also sick from the Rotary weekend.
This lesson we finally got our Czech lesson books that we would be using for the class. We worked our way through another class starting a little bit in the books.
After the lesson I still wasn’t feeling great, but they had invited me to hang out and I didn’t want to just go home and sit around so I went out with everyone. We went shopping for a little while before I left Ana and Sasha so that I could walk Gigi to her tram. Once she was on her way to her dancing class I went back to meet up with the other two. We got some food before I walked to my mom’s office to catch a ride home with her.
On our way home we stopped at the wine cellar in the village. We had some tea and cake with the owner and his wife while we talked a bit. I hadn’t talked to him since Miloš’s birthday which was when I first got here. He said that my Czech had gotten much better since then!
After spending some time there we went home and had some dinner. I got another card in the mail from Elsa with some pictures of her dog and of us that I immediately hung on the wall.
Wednesday morning I woke up at 5:30 so that I could make it to school by 7. I showed up on time for the first time in a few weeks, but of course the teacher didn't. I was supposed to be doing my English presentation about how we celebrate holidays in the US, but when I went to open it on the computer it didn't work. I was kind of okay with it not working because I was still pretty sick and I could barely talk. As I was heading back to my seat I caught my jeans on one of the chairs and ripped a hole across the top of my leg. It just wasn't my day. I talked to my parents and my teacher and I went home early.
The whole afternoon it was snowing in Lukovany which made me really happy. Mostly, I rested, drank tea, and made sure to eat lots of honey too. I didn't talk for the rest of the day in hopes to have my voice back the next day.
In the evening I ate some dinner with my family. Then I packed my backpack for going to Vienna the next day with my class. When I was mostly ready to go I went to bed early to try and make sure that I was healthier the next day.
Vienna:
Thursday morning I got up early again since we had to leave Brno early to get to Vienna. I still didn't feel 100%, but I was feeling better and I wouldn't get to go to Vienna with my class again. Zora drove me into the city and I went to meet my class at our bus. I sat with Shri, and my friends sat all around us. On the ride there Shri and I slept most of the way. We stopped at McDonald's to go to the bathroom on our way to Vienna and some people got snacks and coffee too.
When we first arrived in Vienna we went to a technical museum which was really cool. My friends and I walked around taking silly pictures and playing with all of the interactive parts of the museum. After the museum we walked to one of the smaller Christmas markets. We had a little bit of time to walk around and buy something if we wanted. My friends and I decided to buy two giant bread pretzels to share. Then we went of a tour of Vienna with our bus driver. We were all completely frozen, so when we were stopping every 5 minutes to talk about some piece of history, everyone was jumping around trying to get warm.
Later in the afternoon they let us go on our own to find lunch. Most of us ended up in a really crowded pizza place because it was cheap and good. After lunch my friends and I went to the Manner store to get our favorite chocolates and wafers. After our time for lunch was over we made our way to another museum. It was more of a historical museum with lots of display cases.
After seeing the museum we got back on the bus and drove to another part of Vienna to go to the big Christmas market. There, my friends and I walked to almost every shop and bought their families some gifts. Then I went with one of them to get some punch (without alcohol of course) to warm up before we went to meet one of her friends. There were a bunch of schools in Vienna at the same time and a few of them were in the markets at the same time as us. I got to meet on of Betka's friends who happens to be friends with Gigi. We said goodbye after awhile and walked over to meet the rest of the group.
We all walked to where the bus would be picking us up, and we ended up having to wait 45 minutes in the cold for the bus to arrive. Once the bus finally came we all got on and started to warm up. On the drive back we all took each others' phones and looked at the pictures of the day. We stopped at McDonald's again and my friends and I went to the bathroom before asking to go to the gas station next-door to get a little snack gift for our other classmates that didn't come. So we ran to the gas station and then ran to the bus right before it left.
When we got back to Brno I called Zora and met her at her office where she picked me up and we went to her parents' house. They gave us some tea since I was still cold, and they gave me some fish salad and bread as an early dinner. We hung out for awhile talking about my day and waiting for Ruda to be done with baseball practice. Finally he called and we went to pick him up.
When we got home at 10:30 I decided not to have dinner since I had eaten a lot at the grandparents'. I ended up staying up another two hours packing and getting ready for my trip to Poprad the next morning.
another great blog. sorry to hear of your being sick. I know that feeling of being overdone, and still wanting to do it all! take care dear!
