I had been starting to get a little sick at the beginning of the orientation meeting since it's starting to get cold, but I was refusing to get sick. After the long weekend though, it was hard to ignore the fact that I was sick and could barely speak. I decided to take my first day of school off to rest so that I could recover and not have to miss more days later.
Tuesday, I woke up still not feeling 100%, but I decided I needed to pull it together and just go to school. It was a good thing I went because I was able to help most of my classmates study for an English test they had, and correct some of their papers before they turned them in to the teacher. We got out of school early for some reason and I had a bit of time to myself, so I walked one of my friends to the train before going back to the city center. As we walked she taught me random Czech words and phrases and she ended up learning some more English too. Then I took the bus home, and worked on a presentation about Oregon that I was going to give to the English classes. For dinner that night we had pumpkin soup (just plain pumpkin) with pumpkin seeds and pumpkin oil and some cream. It was perfect for the cold weather that is coming. We ended the night with going to the club for a little while.
On Wednesday, I did my first Oregon presentation, and it took the whole 45 minute class period. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and I only kind of lost my voice. Later in the school day my Czech teacher and some of my friends taught me some new Czech that I then presented to the class. After school I went to Ana's (exchange from Mexico) house and dropped off all of my stuff before we went to a cukrárna (basically a cake slice shop that sometimes sells coffee as well). Ana had been here before and was desperate to show me. We spent a couple of hours trying 3 types of cake and drinking tea and coffee on the streets of Brno. We got a chocolate cherry cake, a cookie cake, and a honey cake which was by far our favorite! We even did our best to order and pay in Czech. Then we went shopping for some clothes and some snacks for the night, before heading home for dinner. I was spending the night at her house so I got to have dinner with her family. We also had pumpkin soup for dinner, but it was quite different than what I had had the night before. We went to the city to see what it was like in the evening after dinner for a little while before coming back and hanging out in her room. The next day we had school, but I started after her so I walked her to school before going to my school. At school I gave my Oregon presentation to the other English class. I also learned some more Czech. After school I went shopping for some supplies to make friendship bracelets for some of my friends, got a snack, and then went to pick up Ana from school. We went to the mall for a little while before I took her home and then got on the bus back to Lukovany.
Friday there was no school for a Czech holiday. There was a festival in the village so I went to that all weekend!
Wow...those cake slices look delish! I wish we had pastries like that here. And so nice that you have a special friend like Ana to share your experiences with. I'd love to see your Oregon presentation. I'm sure it was very informative. Abrazos y besos! (hugs and kisses in Spanish...what is it in Czech?)
Lovely adventures on a day to day basis! nice that you get to share your home state and life! Missing you!
