Week Fourteen of School

Vánočka

Monday morning I woke up and found out that, yes it was super icy, but we would be going to the city anyways, or at least trying. I went to Brno with my host mom and brother since my host dad wasn't going to the city. I had about an hour before my Czech lesson, so I went to a cafe. My lesson went really well, and I am feeling better about my language.

In school I did my usual hanging out and working on my Czech homework. Our last class was art class and this week we made Christmas stamps. My friends and I had a good time laughing at how bad our stamps were since none of us are all that good at art.

After school I didn't really have much to do, so I went to the cafe again for a snack and to work on my journal. Then I made my way to my host mom's office to get ready for my dance class. I was tired as usual and was in a weird mood, but my host mom had coffee chocolate which always makes me feel better.

In dance class we were adding spins to another dance, and since I cant understand what the teacher is saying I always rely on being able to watch her demonstrate. I wasn't able to see her this time, so I had no idea what was going on and I got pretty frustrated. After awhile of struggling through, we took our break. After the break we got new partners and added some stuff to salsa. My new parter was really funny and we had a great time.

After dance we took my partner home and then we went home too. We had a little dinner before I called it a day and went to bed hoping to be in a better mood the next day.

Tuesday morning I went to school like normal. I left a few minutes early to walk to the tram stop to pick up Gigi and Sasha since they had never been to my school before. It was our first group language lesson through Rotary, and the lessons were going to be held at my school. To be honest I was pretty worried about our lessons since I knew for a fact we were all on very different levels of speaking since we all got here at totally different times.

We all met up in the lobby and then walked to the classroom together to meet our teacher. Since we are all together we had to start from the beginning to see where everyone was, and just how I had predicted, we were very spread out knowledge wise. It was quite interesting, and we will see how it works out in our future lessons once people have been here longer.

After our lesson Sasha went with me to get my nails done since I promised him that we could go out to eat afterwards. So after we went to get some Greek food and we hung out.

After a few hours together it was time for me to meet my host dad to go home. I took a bus to where he was picking up Ruda and we went home. We had a quick dinner and I went to bed early again since I had to wake up early the next day.

Wednesday was St. Nicholas Day. I woke up at 5:30 to make it to school by 7, but I was 10 minutes late so I ran a little bit. In the afternoon in school I paid my German teacher for our class trip to Vienna the next week.

After school I took the bus home so that I could work on my blog. When my host dad got home later in the afternoon he helped me try to learn my Czech Christmas song that I needed to work on for my Rotary weekend that weekend.

For dinner we had a sort of risotto with some chicken, peppers and olives in it. I thought it was funny that both Ruda and I don't like olives, so we picked them out and put them on the parents' plates.

Since it was St. Nicholas Day, Ruda and I got little gift bags with oranges, chocolates, cookies, and peanuts in them.

Thursday, I woke up and went to the city and went to my regular classes. In PE we played the "around the world" version of ping pong, but instead of going out when you missed the ball, you did two push-ups. So of course I ended up doing so many pushups my whole upper body felt like mush. Then we played floorball, and I managed to hit the ball a few times!

After school I went to Robert's work and we went home from the city pretty early because we had a baking project to do. I needed help making another vánočka for my Christmas Rotary meeting. We baked until late in the evening and hung out since it was just us until late when Ruda got home. In the evening we made sure everyone was on the same page for my weekend away. I did some last minute packing for Prague, and then went to bed.

Friday morning was a bit crazy because my host dad had to leave early for an appointment, and my brother was staying home sick. So I got myself ready and rushed down to Miloš's house for a ride to the city. It was still icy and I had way too much stuff, but I made it. I had a snack at their house while they finished getting ready, and then we all got in the car and started towards the city. We dropped off their daughter first, and then they took me to my Czech lesson. There was a lot of stopped traffic on the highway so I was a bit late to my lesson, but it was alright. I thanked them for the ride and and went on my way.

After my lesson I went to my host mom's office to drop off my excess of stuff before going to school for a couple of hours. At lunch, the adventure to Prague for the Christmas meeting began!

love the looks of that loaf! will have to look up the recipe! Reminds me of when we made Challah, the braided bread. I am assuming you feel successful in the process of this bread? Do you know the origins of the packages on St. Nicholas day? sounds a bit like the stockings? love the post, as always. love nama
